Hi there! My name is Ariana. Welcome to my website Ranting and Writing. I am an intersectional feminist from Los Angeles. I identify as a White and Latinx person with a disability and my pronouns are she/her/hers. Even though I identify as cisgender, I view my gender as fluid. I graduated with my Master’s degree in Women’s Studies from San Diego State University in 2020. I have been taking journalism classes at NYU since 2021.

The word “rant” traditionally has a negative connotation. The official definition of ranting is to “speak or shout at length in a wild, impassioned way.” However, I wanted to reclaim the word rant for this blog because a lot of my writing and ideas have stemmed from me just ranting away out loud. I figured I should probably start writing things down. I learned that my best ideas, including those you see on this blog, have come from me ranting away to anyone who would listen.

When it comes to passions I have a few. I love educating others! I have a strong interest in how the media reinforces norms/stereotypes about gender, race, and sexuality and how it overall influences our worldview. I am really interested in how we are influenced and shaped by society as children (even before we are born *cough* gender reveals). I aim to do my part in dismantling racism, sexism, ableism, heteronormativity, and the stigmatization of mental health.

This blog displays a variety of formats of clips such as journalistic news/features, other research-based articles, and personal essays. I hope to become a professional writer outside of academia and outside of this website. During my time in academia, specifically in grad school, I saw how elitist it could be. I would catch myself getting lost in the fancy complex language and feeling very inadequate because of it. I feel like so many people are left out of the conversation or not understanding a topic because of this, which is not fair. I enjoy writing pieces that relate to others. I want to help others grow, learn, and feel less alone.

I also seek to include more informal pieces of writing, like shorter blogs and rants. I want to connect with others on issues of relationships/breakups, mental health, and just navigating everyday life in a time where it feels like the world is falling apart.

Thank you for being here!
